12/17/2007 - Gotcha Day
What an afternoon! We left for the Guangdong Province Civil Affairs Office at 3:00 PM. Upon arriving, we were overwhelmed with the number of families there to do the exact thing we were. There were probably 30-40 families there when we arrived, all packed in a foyer area that wasn't suited the best for all the chaos. Lots of crying, both by the parents and the children, and people moving everywhere.
When the orphanage assistant director brought Avery out, it was just as special and emotional as the moments when all of our children were born. I was trying to take pictures and shoot video while wiping away tears of joy. The assistant director said 'Bai Yu Fen', looked at our Travel Approval document, then handed Avery right over to Jeanne. Avery cried from that point until we left almost one hour later. However, Jeanne calmed things down with some fruit puff snacks, which were an instant hit with Avery.
All is GREAT now. We are back in the hotel, and Avery is resting quietly on the bed. She is very interested in everything in the room, as her eyes are constantly moving and checking things out. Her lip looks very good, which was great to see. However, she is very small and is wearing 12 month clothes, but the orphanage had her dressed in a 0-6 month outfit. Give her some time with her brothers' and sister's snacks, and she'll be just fine. In fact, she's already perfect.
What a blessing Avery is to our family. God is so good!
To all of our family and friends that have prayed for us during this journey, we can't thank you enough. It has been quite a ride, that all started on February 28, 2006. Everything that transpired during this process is now a memory, and Avery Yu Fen Sadler is now a reality!
